Why your Shopify store is not getting sales?

Posted on August 27, 2020August 27, 2020 by siddharth

I launched my ecommerce site but I don’t have sales why?

We will see in this article the different reasons why an eCommerce site may not trigger sales.

Traffic :

The first thing to look at is to see if you have enough traffic. Indeed if we base ourselves on the average transformation rate in ecommerce which is 1.5% for new sites (according to this study ). We realize that it already takes at least a hundred visits before being able to have a first sale. So if your traffic is too low you should already focus on acquiring new visitors as a first step.

Then you have to see if the visitors who come to your site are the ones who will buy your products. Indeed, even if you have traffic, it can come from forums or blogs that are not in your theme, therefore this traffic is unqualified and visitors who come to you are not interested in your products. .

You can also go to Google analytics and study your stats . First, see if you have visits from mobile devices. If your site is not easily searchable on this type of device, it is normal that your visitors do not stay!

Still in the statistics, it’s interesting to look at the bounce rate. If you have a high bounce rate, something on your site is causing your visitors to leave. You may have, for example, added advertisements that are more attractive than your products, then you lose your visitors.

The price :

Do you remember to compare your prices with those of your competitors? Remember that your site is new, visitors do not yet trust you. Therefore, if you price too high, your customers will prefer to go to your competition.

Likewise, if you offer prices that are too low you will not look credible to your customers.

If you really want to practice a pricing policy that is different from that of your competitors, in this case, your visitor will need to understand why you are cheaper or more expensive.

A mini internet market study will allow you to better understand this type of problem.

Trust :

A site that does not inspire confidence will invariably scare visitors away. So you have to add a lot of importance to this point.

Is the design of your site clean and professional? The idea here is not to have the most beautiful site in the world, but simply an error-free and non-amateurish graphics. Prestashop’s default theme or a theme that you will buy for a hundred dollars can do the trick.

There are many other points that may worry your visitors.

Here is a non-exhaustive list :

Bad spelling

A half-translated site.

Empty product sheets, without description.

Missing or poor quality photos.

Empty product categories.

Bugs.

Missing or incomplete cgvs and legal notices.

the inability to contact you by phone or e-mail.

Social media icons with counters close to zero (if you don’t have a lot of fans prefer icons without counters).

Weird price formats 8,700 or 9.14 (Prefer 9.15).

A coherent catalog:

Is your product catalog consistent? if you offer all kinds of products you run the risk of being too generalist and you will have difficulty in being credible with your visitors (you cannot be an expert in all areas).

Rather, I advise you to specialize in one area in order to provide added value, and thus more easily convince your visitors to buy your products.

Slowness :

Your site must be displayed quickly, in fact Internet users are in a hurry and a large majority of them leave sites that load in more than three seconds.

If you use prestashop, I invite you to read this article in which I give some tips to optimize the loading of your site)

Still can’t find why your site isn’t working?

The first thing to do is test your site on other computers and other browsers. It is indeed possible that you have a significant display bug that completely blocks the user and prevents him from making his purchases.

You can also have your site tested by your friends and family. Ask them to decide which products they would like to buy from you and give them your site address. Let them browse and run into problems without helping them and take notes!

Do this with different people, this will allow you to identify the blocking elements of your site.

If you have the option to do it with strangers it’s even better because they won’t spare you as your family would
